Walking the Brooklyn Bridge

日曜は午後２時過ぎから出かけ地下鉄でシティーホール前で下車、出口を出れば向かにブルックリン橋への歩道が目の前にある。久々にブルックリン橋を 歩いて渡り、橋の上からマンハッタンやブルックリンを眺めてはTシャツ姿に心地よい風が吹いてくる。

途中でブルックリン橋のデザインした Tシャツをお兄さんが売っていたけど、私サイズのXL（洗うと小さくなるので）がないので諦め、欲しそうな顔をしてたのでワイフに買って上げました、２０ ドルで袋なしでした（笑）
ブルックリン橋とマンハッタン橋の間の対岸が再開発で奇麗な公園（Brooklyn Bridge Park）となっているので、足を運びました。
完成して間もないのか、お花達は少なかったです。

喉の渇きと遅い昼食を公園近くの レストラン（パイがお勧めの広いお店で、メインディシュは１４〜１９ドルと美味しく観光地としてはお手軽な価格）でしては、ダンボー地区を散策しては、 せっかくですから違った景観をとマンハッタン橋を歩いて帰ることにしました。素晴らしい夕焼けの時間帯をミスったので、日暮れては夜景が奇麗になるまで ３０分ほど真ん中で待っていましたが、行き交う人はまばらで寂しい橋でした。マンハッタン橋では地下鉄が走るので良く揺れて、三脚なしの小さなカメコー ダーでの望遠は揺れてしまいました。

マンハッタン橋の４分の３を渡り終えると下から中華料理の匂いが美味しそうに漂ってきましたが、食べ たばかりなので断念してはゆっくりと楽しみながら家まで歩いてゆきました。

計算してみると８キロは歩いたようで、健康的な素晴らしい一日 でした。

Today we decided to check out a brand-new NYC park: the Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Tucked between the Brooklyn and Williamsburg Bridges, it's not too big now, but shows promise of being yet another unique NYC greenspace. It was a beautiful day so we decided to go down to the Brooklyn Bridge Entrance via the #6 train, walk over to Brooklyn and return by walking over the Williamsburg Bridge.

The bridge and the park were busy with other strollers, bikers, and photographers, all having a great time. A few guys were shooting a rap video in the center of the Bridge, and it was funny to watch the lead vocal mouthing the rap in an inaudible whisper (the sound will get dubbed in later, I'm sure).

Anyway, we got to Brooklyn and headed to the nearby young park. The Park is all about the spectacular view (see our slide show below) - and the promise of things to come. It's well worth the trip, especially if you walk the bridges like we did.  You can read more about the park's progress here.

We had a nice late lunch at Bubby's, at Water and Main Streets - (Take cash if you go, they don't accept credit cards), and headed back over the Williamsburg Bridge to Manhattan; even though there were a few drops of rain, we decided to save a few dollars and walk all the way back home.
