The Staten Island Ferry FREE
South Ferry at Battery Park, Manhattan
25 minutes each way of cool fresh sea air and  magnificent views, FREE, both ways.
Sitting inside is for bored commuters; if possible, stand outside on the front or back decks, say hello to the seagulls and passing sailboats. Combine your ferry ride with some Manhattan downtown site seeing, or make a day of it by visiting the Staten Island attractions listed below:

Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, a distinguished Smithsonian Affiliate, is Staten Island's premier destination for culture and entertainment. Set within a stunning 83-acre park-like setting, it presents a unique blend of gardens, museums, theaters, educational opportunities, and seasonal festivals.
Highlights
The New York Chinese Scholar's Garden   •  Audio and video presentations to acquaint the visitor with Chinese culture, as well as written materials that explain the meanings and nuances behind Chinese Scholar’s Gardens.
The Tuscan Garden  •  Modeled after the exquisite Villa Gamberaia in Florence, this garden was designed by an international team that included Mariella Zopi, Minister of Culture for Tuscanny; Enrico Buccioni, Florence's leading preservation architect; and New York City Department of Parks Capital Project architects and specialists.
