• Brooklyn's Sakura Matsuri, 2010

First of all, let me confess that there were absolutely no sakura left here, they had all gone to sakura heaven last week. (We did get to see plenty in April, though.)

Nevertheless, Saturday was perfect weather, but since Aki had to work, we went on Sunday, instead. It was soo hot and muggy that only the bravest stayed inside the tents to watch the performances, so we strolled around the grounds instead. We did catch the Butoh dancers and some of the Cosplay kids, (left) and found some unbelievably gorgeous giant peonies (see photos, slide show below),

We've had some bad weather-luck in the last few years - last year the sakura were beautiful and in full bloom, but the day was rainy and very cold - of course I insisted on wearing zori and almost froze my toes off, but this year we almost melted in the heat and humidity.  I did have the foresight to buy a kasa (parasol). I cheated though, it was the Chinese version (please don't tell...)

Next year will be perfect though, we promise!
